51st Annual Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies Symposium

When:  Nov 2, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (PT)
Over 50 years ago Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, the only cleft palate team in Southern California at the time, began an annual Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies Symposium to bring together specialists to share information on treating children with cleft. The special guest speaker list includes notables in various fields: Genetics: Robert J. Gorlin, DDS, MS and Marilyn C. Jones (pediatrics/genetics); Plastic/maxillofacial surgery: Henry K. Kawamoto, MD, DDS, Fernando Ortiz Monasterio, MD, William Cronin Trier, M.D., Don LaRossa, MD; Pediatric psychology: Lynn Richman, PhD; orthodontics: R. Ross Long, Jr, DDS, PhD, Barry Grayson, DDS and speech: Sally Peterson-Falzone, Ph.D, Dave Kuehn, PhD, and Donald W. Warren, DDS, PhD.

This year’s program will be held on November 2, 2019 in Santa Monica, CA. The special guest speaker will be Lynn Marty Grames, MA, CCC-SLP from St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

The members of our Team present an overview of the specialties and their role involved in Team care. As has been repeatedly discussed at ACPA, speech and dental programs spend little to no time on this population. Community providers are offered this opportunity to learn about treating children with cleft and Team coordination as the standard of care.

The afternoon concurrent sessions will focus on speech, dental, and family issues in more depth.
